The HCG diet is a weight loss plan through daily shots of the diet hormone. You have to administer the injections along with the 500 calorie intake per day. The food choices that you can eat during Phase 2 of the HCG diet are also limited. You can only eat whole fruits, vegetables, and lean protein. The foods you can eat during the HCG diet are whole and organic. It’s because you cannot have sugar, carbs, fats, and additives while maintaining the HCG shots.

Why can’t you eat bread during the HCG diet?

Bread contains carbs that you cannot eat while having your HCG shots. The reality is that bread does not contain many valuable nutrients. It will make you full but you will get hungry right away. When you eat too much bread you will end up gaining more calories. It also has gluten and other contents that may cause issues during your HCG diet.

The processed flour on bread contributes a lot to weight gain and obesity. It does not guarantee any beneficial properties for your weight loss. Bread also contains too many calories and can spikes up your blood sugar. It triggers some occurrences of hunger and cravings. Avoid eating bread even if you are following the modern approach of VLCD which allows 800 calories per day.

Is Melba toast bread?

Melba toast is a dry crisp toast that you can eat during the HCG diet. The original plan of Dr. Simeons does not allow bread, cereals, and pasta but you can have Melba toast. A Melba toast contains low to zero starch and crabs which does not interfere with the HCG. Unlike Melba toast, other bread contains an excessive amount of carbs, sugar, and starches.

What will happen when you eat bread during the VLCD?

Eating a small amount of bread may or may not cause weight gain. But, when you eat a large piece of bread you are more likely to gain weight. Small weight gains happen because you cheat on your diet by eating bread. You may also reach a weight-loss stall or plateau. Weight gain or stall will continue when you prolong your situation. It may also affect your weight loss in the long run. Gaining weight or stalling because of eating carbs may also lead you back to zero.

Things to do when you stall or gain weight by eating bread on VLCD

The first thing you must do when you realize that your cheat is to drink water. It will help in flushing out toxins and extra calories from the foods you eat. If the weight loss stall continues for several days you can do the “apple day”. Start eating apples on lunch on the first day and end it on the next day at the same time.

A mini-steak day can also help you with weight gain during the P2 of the HCG diet. A mini-steak day is a derivation from the original steak day on Phase 3 of the HCG diet. This is a way of eating nothing but a piece of steak at dinner only. You can only drink water for the entire day and have a piece of lean steak and an apple or tomato during dinner. This step will help you get back on your diet track.
